A land of rivers
Far from the capital, on flood-prone ground between great rivers — home to the villages where our schools take root.
Our region is a land of rivers — the Brahmaputra, the Tista, the Dhorla and more. Floods are common in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari, where people farm, fish, do day labour, or run small businesses.
It is at once the most flood-prone and the poorest part of the country, far away from the capital, Dhaka.

Far from Dhaka, close to the border
The Hindu minority here is considerable — perhaps a fifth of the population. Among our children, a majority come from Hindu families, and most of them are girls.
At present, teaching takes place in eight villages, each school rooted in the homes and lives of the people around it.
